About Michele

Hi, I’m Michele - a writer, producer, editor, professor, and adventure seeker who loves storytelling, travel, great gluten-free food, taking on big projects, and (when I’m working out) a riveting audiobook or podcast.

I’ve earned multiple Telly Awards, a Cable ACE Award, and created an award-winning post-secondary film and television production program. I'm the author of Pieces and Parts (more to come on that), the creator of Screengoat.com - a free resource for student filmmakers - and the President of Round Circle, Inc., a multimedia production company that helps brands and businesses reach their audience through creative content.

But before all of that, I started as a production assistant in television and eventually became a producer. Passionate? Absolutely. Paid well? Not exactly.
 
So, I pivoted into sales - unexpectedly discovering I was really pretty good at connecting with people. I was soon promoted to VP of Sales at a successful corporate consulting firm, working with Fortune 500 companies and closing multi-million dollar deals. I loved my clients and the company.

But then...I became a mom and I started to think about time vs money.
​
Cue the moment when my father-in-law asked, “So, where’s the money going to come from?” A valid question - because I was walking away from a very big paycheck. But when I found myself uncomfortably pregnant with baby #2, stuck overnight in an airport with a handwritten note taped to my suit jacket asking the gate agent to wake me for the 6 a.m. flight, I realized I didn’t envy my super successful clients - I envied my super lucky nanny, Cecely, and I wanted her job. 
​
So, we sold the historic bungalow and moved into a little ugly house in a great school district. I’ll never forget my mother’s reaction the first time she saw this place, “You’re going to live in this piece of...?” A few years and a lot of elbow grease later, everyone wants to visit. Maybe it's the pool. Or, maybe it's the stories we've built here.

Leaving my big and fancy title behind, I returned to creative storytelling working with clients at Round Circle and as a Professor of Digital Video, helping the next generation of filmmakers bring their stories to life. They keep me up to date on the latest trends, technology, and lingo - though honestly, by the time I learn the new words, we should all stopped using them.
